Architectural Concept

The architectural concept for the Kay Tita site in the Turgeau neighborhood of Port-au-Prince embraces the challenges and opportunities presented by its unique location. Situated amidst a vibrant educational and business hub, the site is bordered by the Ravine Bois de Chêne to the south, offering the potential for a third facade. Despite the complexities of the site's shape, efforts are made to integrate the ravine into the landscape concept, creating open spaces while adhering to legal requirements regarding building near a ravine. Public spaces like Konbit Café are strategically oriented towards the street, fostering engagement with the urban environment, while private areas are situated towards the quieter rear of the plot. The design prioritizes natural ventilation and passive cooling strategies to minimize reliance on mechanical systems, with renewable energy sources like solar and hydro power being explored to supplement energy needs. Additionally, the building's design considers seismic resilience, incorporating both active and passive structural measures to ensure safety in a highly seismic zone.
